Florentino Perez has assured Real Madrid’s players that “no-one will forget them” in wake of the Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday.
The majority of the squad assembled by Carlo Ancelotti won Los Blancos’ 10th European cup last season, ending the club’s drawn-out pursuit of La Decima.
A year on, Madrid have struggled to find consistency in their performances, but the President has every faith in the current crop to turn their fortunes around.
“There is a maximum level of demand [at Real Madrid]. I’m proud of many things, our achievements in sports, prestige, economic strength… but above all to have a following like [we do at] the present,” he said at a members event.
“I’m thinking about La Undecima [our 11th Champions League title]. These players and Coach are those who won La Decima and therefore have earned the respect, recognition and affection of everyone. No-one will forget them.”
