Almeria President Alfonso Garcia says the club are confident they will not face a points deduction over former player Michael Jakobsen.
FIFA has imposed a three-point deduction on the Andalusians after his former club Esbjerg claimed they are owed between €50,000 and €60,000 in royalties from the transfer in 2011.
However, Garcia insists no such debts exist as they were covered in the initial transfer outlay and that the club carried out proceedings correctly.
“The Spanish League has told us to relax and that no points will be deducted, but we’ll see what the Court of Arbitration for Sport has to say,” he is quoted as saying by AS.
“It is to do with a matter of a solidarity clause with Danish side Aalborg BK. When we sold Jakobsen [pictured, left] to FC Copenhagen we signed a deal stating this was his new club and they would cover all training and development costs.
“These are the very same FIFA is trying to reclaim from us but we have valid documentation to prove all was carried out correctly. They are also trying to claim an unpaid €4,500 in interest fees.
“We paid these on the Monday and Friday of the same week we were informed we had paid them outside the deadline. This is when the threat of taking three points from us arose,” he explained.
