Espanyol have released a statement denying allegations that they helped to fix a La Liga match last season.
The Catalans’ 1-1 draw with Osasuna last May has reportedly come under scrutiny from Spain’s Professional Football League (LFP) amidst accusations that both clubs agreed to play for a point beforehand.
“We want to make it absolutely clear that RCD Espanyol de Barcelona have had no involvement in any match-fixing or irregularities,” vice-President Rafael Entrena said in a statement on Espanyol’s official website.
“We defend the purity and sportsmanship of the competition, now and forever.
“RCD Espanyol de Barcelona will collaborate actively and decisively with both Prosecutor in his case and all sports authorities to take the investigation of these facts to its conclusion.
“Let us make it absolutely clear that the club, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, have no relationship with any irregularity.
“If the investigation concludes that someone has committed an irregularity, they will face the [appropriate] consequences.”
