Pedro ‘realistic’ for Copa del Rey

Getafe winger Pedro Leon says the Madrid outfit are remaining ‘realistic’ over their Copa del Rey chances and must make La Liga the priority.

El Geta face a difficult quarter-final first leg clash with Villarreal at El Madrigal on Wednesday and Leon was at pains to point out the extent of the club’s ambitions this season, with just one point separating them from the relegation places.

“We are all very excited about the Cup and are into the Last eight, where we face tough opponents, but we’ve got to be realistic about the situation,” he told reporters.

“We have a small squad and have only got 17 points in the League, although it doesn’t mean we are not looking forward to the Villarreal game, but our aim is to stay in La Primera.”

Despite Getafe’s 3-0 home loss to Real Madrid on Sunday, the 28-year-old believes there were still some positives to take out of the match.

“The truth is that we planned the game well and had 62 good minutes before they got the first goal. They hardly had any chances except for some Toni Kroos shots from outside the box.

“We are now into the second half of the season and we must recharge our batteries because we don’t want to suffer like we did last year.

“For us the League starts now and every game will be like a final, although with the help of our fans I hope we can get enough points from our home matches to reach safety,” he declared.
