Diego Simeone has confirmed that Fernando Torres and Mario Mandzukic will start together in attack for Atletico Madrid’s visit of Granada on Sunday.
The pair have yet to line up together, with the returning Spaniard being preferred to the former Bayern Munich man for both legs of Los Colchoneros’ Copa del Rey last-16 tie with Real Madrid.
“We approach each game with the illusion that no two games are the same. Now, we’re only thinking about Granada,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“Granada come here with the hope of showing improvement, it’s their responsibility when a Coach leaves.
“Both [Torres and Mandzukic] are strikers who are at their best near the box, especially when they’re running forward.
“We’ve done it on other occasions with players who had different characteristics but were forwards nonetheless: Falcao-[Diego] Costa and Costa-[David] Villa.
“Tomorrow they’ll play together. We must try to find the attacking power which playing the two together can give us.
“We’re not tired. I think fatigue is part of football and you have to live with it, but I don’t think [we are].
“First of all, I think about the players who can win the game for us. We’ve always thought that the best players can adapt to their opponents accordingly.
“We must also be aware of our results and statistics. In two games, we’ve conceded four goals. I think the numbers speak for themselves.
“How many more goals do we need to score to be considered offensive?”
