Kroos enjoying Bernabeu life

Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos admits he is enjoying his time at the club since his signing from Bayern Munich last summer.

The 25-year-old has become a key element in Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s engine room and was named in the World XI at the Ballon d'Or awards in Zurich on Monday night.

“I love playing at the Bernabeu. The Real Madrid fans have been really great towards me and I’m grateful to them,” he told Marca.

“I’m very happy to have received this award but it’s not the most important thing. That is the team and I’d like to thank all my teammates for their efforts.

“Kroos cannot play alone and Cristiano [Ronaldo] cannot play alone…the team is the most important thing and that’s what counts.

“Personally, I can still improve. I think I’ve done well over the last few months but I’ve just turned 25 and this is not the end.

“You can always improve by hard work and the team can improve too. That’s what we are working towards.”

Los Blancos take on cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid in a second-leg Copa del Rey clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday night, hoping to overcome a two-goal deficit from the first leg, and Kroos says the Madrid players will be doing their utmost to reach the quarter-finals.

“We’ll be going all out to try and turn it around. It won’t be easy as Atletico have a great team and the result makes it tough.

A 3-1, for example, would mean we went out, but we’ll try,” he concluded.
