Toni Kroos felt Manuel Neuer’s third place at the FIFA 2014 Ballon d’Or awards behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo was unfair.
The Real Madrid midfielder was convinced it would be a straight fight between his Germany international teammate Neuer and clubmate Ronaldo, only for Messi to be voted into second place behind the Portuguese.
“It was surprising and a little unfair that Neuer finished behind Messi,” he told Sky Sports News.
“I thought it would be close between Manuel and Cristiano. Manuel was the best goalkeeper by a long way and Cristiano the best outfield player.
“It was between the two of them really. Manuel would have been a worthy winner but Cristiano also deserved it.”
