Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez has won the 2014 FIFA Puskas Award, pipping both Robin van Persie and Stephanie Roche to the chase.
The 23-year-old’s volley from distance during Colombia’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay at the World Cup was selected as the best goal of the past 12 months.
His effort saw off the Netherlands forward's header against Spain in the same competition and also the Irish women's star's skilful strike for Peamount United.
