Fiorentina technical director Eduardo Macia is among the names mentioned as successors to Andoni Zubizarreta at Barcelona.
Macia, formerly of Valencia, Liverpool and Olympiacos, is said by Sport to be ‘gaining strength’ in the pack of contenders.
Zubizarreta was on Monday sacked from his post after four years at Camp Nou, while his assistant, former Barca captain Carles Puyol, also resigned.
Macia has been at the Serie A club since 2011, first as a scout before taking the technical director’s job, having held a similar position at Valencia.
He left Mestalla for Anfield under Rafael Benitez and worked in Greece before heading to Italy.
Barca’s director of football Raul Sanllehi has been mooted as a potential sporting director by AS, with a board meeting and Press conference scheduled for Wednesday to decide who will fill the vacancy.
