Barcelona will find out the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) decision on their transfer ban on Tuesday.
FIFA fined Barca €370,000 and prohibited the club from making transfers for the next two windows after they were found guilty of breaking rules related to the signing of underage players from outside Spain.
The Catalans subsequently appealed to CAS and managed to get the embargo temporarily suspended, while during that time they were able to sign players such as Luis Suarez, Jeremy Mathieu, Ivan Rakitic, Claudio Bravo and Thomas Vermaelen.
A final verdict had been expected before Christmas but that was put on hold after CAS asked for more documentation and the club now hope to have an answer before the opening of the January transfer window.
According to Sport, Barca remain “cautiously optimistic” that their appeal will be upheld, having already admitted to “inconsistencies” with their youth transfer system during the period in question, and feel the fine imposed has been sufficient punishment.
