Deportivo la Coruna boss Victor Fernandez praised the courage of Argentine midfielder Luis Farina after the 1-0 win over Elche.
The Argentine, on loan from Benfica, scored the only goal of the game on 22 minutes to relieve the pressure on Fernandez, who was rumoured before the game to be just 90 minutes away from the axe.
Farina, 23, has been sidelined through injury for the last six weeks and Fernandez was quick to commend his attitude after the game.
“Farina has had just six training sessions with the group but he has a lot of courage and wanted to play,” he told a post-match Press conference.
“I feel satisfied the team got what it deserved after weeks of looking for it, and when you see players so dedicated to the cause the satisfaction is even greater.”
Fernandez highlighted the display of goalkeeper Fabricio, who pulled off a string of fine saves to deny La Liga’s bottom club, and also the club’s fans.
“Fabricio had a great game in a match that had everything. One thing it didn’t lack was emotion.
“I think this boat has risen for a few people today and on this journey we are going to need everyone.
“Near the end the supporters kept us going when they saw we were in difficulty as they recognised the attitude of the team, which brings great unity,” he declared.
