Mario Gotze says the international friendly with Spain on Tuesday is not an opportunity for Joachim Low’s side to gain revenge.
Germany lost to the Spanish in the final of Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup semi-final, but Bayern Munich midfielder Gotze does not believe his team will be going out to settle a few old scores.
“Those games have nothing to do with the friendly we are about to play,” he insisted in an interview published on the German FA’s official website.
“We are not out for revenge. Revenge for what? We are the current World Champions. We’re going to be playing against an elite team, one that has dominated world football in recent years.
“Competing at that level is always a special experience,” said Gotze, who scored the goal that won the World Cup for Germany against Argentina last summer.
