‘Alcacer should have €200m clause’

Valencia President Amadeo Salvo believes Paco Alcacer’s release clause should be as high as possible to ensure he stays at Mestalla.

Salvo has been interviewed by Valencian publication Super Deporte in advance of Peter Lim completing his takeover of the club.

Asked about the chances of retaining the players that have contributed to Los Che’s excellent start to the season, Salvo referred to the sale of Jeremy Mathieu to Barcelona as he explained why he would set Alcacer’s clause so high.

“Paco should be at the highest possible. Players like Alvaro Negredo, Rodrigo Moreno, Andre Gomes, Dani Parejo, Nico Otamendi, Diego Alves, Sofiane Feghouli or Shkordan Mustafi can’t have €20m or €30m clauses,” Salvo said.

“They have to have higher clauses so the club has room to negotiate. You can be sure that if Mathieu had a €35m clause he would have been sold for €35m.

“There no left-sided centre-back of Mathieu’s level, very few, and he has become one of the best players at Barca. The clause is a psychological issue.”

Salvo was asked about Valencia’s future transfer plans and when Rodrigo and Gomes would officially join the club as both are on loan from Benfica.

“We haven’t really talked about future transfers yet. If necessary we can sign in the winter, but maybe not,” he continued.

“In the end it’s down to the Coach, like in all clubs, and the sporting director can say what possibilities there are and what prices.

“The sporting director has a lot of information and makes the final decision while the Coach does the coaching. The sporting director can say what is possible, negotiated and priced.

“We can’t add Rodrigo and Gomes this season because they’re assigned to Benfica, the contracts are with the League, FIFA and all the other bodies.

“In July next year they will be part of Valencia for all intents and purposes. Peter Lim bought them with the intention of sending them to Valencia in the last winter market thinking he would have bought the club in January.”
