Marcelo: Madrid can’t relax

Real Madrid defender Marcelo has agreed the team may be in some of their best form but is wary of resting on their laurels.

Los Blancos beat Granada 4-0 on Saturday afternoon to make it 11 games unbeaten and move top of the League prior to Barcelona and Sevilla playing their Round 10 fixtures.

“It might be our best form but we have to improve and not relax. We have to sacrifice to keep improving,” Marcelo said post-match AS reports.

“The Coach tells us every day what we need to do to improve.”

Marcelo could be in for shooting practice ahead of Madrid’s next outing, the Champions League visit of Liverpool, after wasting three good chances to get on the score sheet, but he was philosophical about his profligacy.

“My first job is to defend. Today I got forward but it wasn’t possible to score,” he countered.

“What matters is we got three points, which are very important to us.”
