Unai Emery declared himself pleased with the mentality of his players after the 6-1 Copa del Rey first leg rout of Sabadell.
On-loan striker Iago Aspas helped himself to a hat-trick, while further goals from Timothee Kolodziejczak, Kevin Gameiro and Jose Antonio Reyes made it a comfortable evening for the Andalusians.
It was a result that pleased Emery, who says he wants to go far in this season’s competition.
“Sevilla has a history in this competition and I think we were conscious of that, so the mentality was good,” he told a Press conference.
“We want to create an aura surrounding the Copa del Rey and we took a step towards that by being competitive from the very first minute to the last, which followed on from last Sunday’s game with Villarreal.
“As for Sabadell, their own League is the priority and for them the Cup is something to dream about, although we set the bar high so they didn’t feel comfortable.
“We also scored a lot of goals, which is something we needed and is positive for everybody.”
Emery maintained he now wants to continue the recent good form when Los Rojiblancos travel to Athletic Bilbao for the noon kick-off this Sunday.
“We like the Cup and want to do well in it but now we must leave it behind for the moment and concentrate on La Liga.
“We have a very difficult match this weekend and that’s what we’ll be concentrating on 100 per cent from now on,” he explained.
