Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has backed striker Mario Balotelli to come good against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
The Italian has struggled so far this season, having scored just once in nine games in all competitions, but Rodgers believes the Champions League clash at Anfield with Madrid is just the stage for him to rediscover his goalscoring touch.
“Of course he was disappointed after the weekend [against missing an open goal at Queens Park Rangers]. He’s a goalscorer and wants to score goals,” Rodgers told a Press conference.
“But I pointed out to him that he was getting the positions to miss. He was getting into the areas, so it’s only a matter of time before he gets goals.
“He’s working hard, which is important, and he’s got goals in big games before. If selected, he’ll go into the game looking to get off the mark again.
“And as long as he’s in there I’ve got every confidence he can score goals,” he declared.
