Sevilla President Jose Castro has denied the club’s sporting director Monchi is set to leave the Sanchez Pizjuan.
Monchi has been linked with similar posts at Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Zenit St. Petersburg and Bayern Munich , although Castro [pictured, left] has cast doubt on reports he is going anywhere.
“I’ve read the news and it isn’t true. Monchi has not been in touch with Bayern Munich. He is very much a Sevilla man is very happy with what he is doing here,” Castro told Tele Sevilla, reports the club’s official website.
“I think he will be with us for many more years, although I’m not a fortune-teller and I don’t know what will happen in 10 days, one month or even a year.
“Monchi is a professional and I don’t think he will leave because he knows that Sevilla needs him.”
In addition, Castro once more came out in support of Unai Emery, who was criticised following the recent heavy loss to Atletico Madrid.
“He’s a Coach who gets the blame for not beating the big teams and I ask myself why. Last year did we not score four against Porto? Did we not beat Benfica? And Real Madrid?
“It’s one of the mad things about football. We have every confidence in him and we are 100 per cent behind him,” he insisted.
