Spain waiting on Ramos injury

Sergio Ramos confirmed he could miss Spain’s Euro 2016 qualifiers after suffering an injury playing for Real Madrid.

Ramos was replaced at half-time of Madrid’s 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and told reporters upon joining up with the national team that the problem is only minor.

However, he admitted he didn’t know the full extent of the injury and conceded it could force him out of international duty.

“I’ve just got a small strain. I hope it’s nothing serious,” he said, AS reports.

“When I woke up it wasn’t too bad but I’ve got to wait. I’m positive and I hope I can travel. If there are any doubts though, it would be best to stay home.”

Should Ramos have to drop out of the Spain squad it would leave Vicente Del Bosque with only two central defenders, the Coach having lamented the number of foreign players in La Liga.

“The Coach’s problems are because there are great players,” Ramos countered when the subject was raised.

“Vicente knows everything about every player. Hopefully there isn’t a dearth of centre-backs.

“There are some very good ones, such as Marc Bartra, Mikel San Jose or Inigo Martinez.

“I’m not usually one to complain about the amount of games and I’m delighted I’ve only been slightly rotated in recent years.

“I’ve been lucky with injuries too.”
