Deportivo La Coruna Coach Victor Fernandez is aware of the size of his team’s task against Real Madrid but is sure they will be competitive.
The sides meet today at the Riazor and while acknowledging Madrid are not in the best form in the League, Fernandez predicted a tough game regardless.
“We are aware of the grandeur of Real Madrid but in football there is always room for fighting,” he said, according to AS.
“This match will be no exception. I think we’ll be able to compete well with Madrid although we are aware we’re playing one of the best teams in the world.
“Madrid haven’t yet reached their optimum level of performance. It seems that way even if there’s only two new players.”
Fernandez was asked directly about Cristiano Ronaldo and said both the Portuguese and Sergio Ramos are players about whom he is particularly concerned.
“We care about them all obviously but Cristiano is a beacon of Madrid because he is so competitive, a devourer of records with a desire to progress,” Fernandez continued.
“Despite his physical difficulties he is a winner.
“Sergio Ramos does everything well. He’s a leader and a champion. I’d have either of them…”
