Real Madrid are pondering a January bid for Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson in January, according to the Daily Star.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be looking to the future, with Jon Flanagan and Javier Manquillo both making a claim for Johnson’s role in the side, and could be ready to do business.
The European Champions want the England international to replace former Red player Alvaro Arbeloa, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu appears to be uncertain.
Johnson, 30, is out of contract next June and the Merseyside club are yet to offer him an extension to his existing agreement.
Having moved to Anfield in 2009 from Portsmouth, Johnson has gone on to win 54 caps for England and would find an approach from Madrid hard to turn down.
However, Los Blancos could face competition for his signature from Juventus, who feel they can land him in the next window for a nominal fee.
