Crespo: Every Cordoba match a final

Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo says every game this season is a final, particularly the one on Friday night against Almeria.

The newly-promoted club have faced a tough start to the season, a 2-0 defeat at Real Madrid on the opening day followed by a 1-1 home draw with Celta Vigo, and after the Almeria fixture they come up against Sevilla and Valencia.

Crespo, who is on loan from Bologna, acknowledges that the Almeria clash is a six-pointer for Albert Ferrer’s men even this early in the season.

“We are going to have to defend well and look to play on the counter-attack, especially as we are away from home.

Each game we play is a final, particularly against opponents such as Almeria who have the same objectives as us,” he told a Press conference.

“That said, we must treat every match the same regardless of the opposition, but Almeria will feel the pressure of playing at home and having to win.

“They are a hard-working team with a good group of players who know how they want to play.

“It will be difficult because they want to make their home a fortress.”

Left-back Crespo, who missed out on the Celta Vigo game through injury but has now recovered, may be forced to operate on the right at the Estadio de Los Juegos Mediterraneos as there is a doubt over the fitness of Adrian Gunino.

“I’ve spent many years playing on both flanks so it won’t be a problem. When it’s time to defend nothing changes, although it’s different in attack when you have the ball.

“However, the Coach will decide where I play,” he concluded.
