Liverpool full-back Javi Manquillo says boss Brendan Rodgers’ fluent Spanish has helped him settle easily into life on Merseyside.
The 20-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid, told the Daily Star that the Irish manager’s ability to speak the same language has been a bonus for him.
“I get on really well with the manager here. He helps us with everything he can, which is great. He also speaks Spanish fluently, so it’s easy for us to communicate.
“I have some fellow Spaniards here with me too in Alberto Moreno, Suso and Jose Enrique, while there are others in the squad who can speak Spanish. So it’s been really easy for me to adapt.”
Rodgers took some time to learn the language during his time in Spain as a young man, having been a keen watcher of Barcelona, and he saw speaking Spanish as a way to help his learning of the game.
