Kiko Casilla has said he will see out the season at Espanyol and hopes to extend his contract, which expires in 2015.
Casilla has been linked with a move away from the club but Mundo Deportivo reports the goalkeeper saying at a Press conference that he sees both his short and long-term future at Cornella-El Prat.
“I’m not leaving Espanyol this summer. What happens after that I don’t know. My intention is to fulfil the year on my contract and continue for many more years,” he said.
“And if one day I have to go, I won’t go for free.
“I’ll be here in August when the League starts and in December and in March. My intention is to stay and I know that sooner or later I’ll sign.
“My head is in Espanyol and I will stay. I have no pre-agreement with anyone.
“Espanyol have done a lot for me and seeing the situation of the club, in a hypothetical exit I want the club to benefit. It’s a delicate and difficult issue because things aren’t clear.
“Getting to June 30 without signing, unresolved, is not easy mentally for a player.”
Casilla also touched on the developments at Espanyol over the summer, with Sergio Gonzalez appointed Coach and Joan Capdevilla leaving the club.
“We took a few days but we’re seeing what the new Coach wants,” he said.
“There’s a good atmosphere here with many people wanting to win and I think the signings are good. [Felipe] Caicedo can help us a lot. It’s an important and exciting season.
“I’ve always wanted to be captain and it’s clear that I would like to be now.”
