Atletico Madrid have made Mario Mandzukic their primary target to replace Diego Costa after being priced out of a move for Alvaro Negredo.
Marca report that Manchester City’s insistence on receiving €30m for the former Sevilla striker means Atleti have to look elsewhere for a new striker.
Mandzukic, potentially available from Bayern Munich for €18m, has become the preferred choice of Diego Simeone.
It’s said that Mandzukic is very close to Atletico and a deal could be done within the next few days after the Croatia international fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
The likes of Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested, as are Mandzukic’s former team Wolfsburg.
