Valencia reject Barca Mathieu bid

Valencia have rejected Barcelona’s latest offer for French defender Jeremy Mathieu, reports in Spain say.

Mundo Deportivo report that Barca have agreed terms with Mathieu but his club are refusing to sell, with Barca reluctant to pay the €20m plus tax release clause stipulated in the 30-year-old’s contract.

Talks between the clubs have taken place at Presidential level, between Josep Maria Bartomeu and Amadeo Salvo, and when Peter Lim completes his takeover of Los Che, the club’s position won’t change.

The move could go ahead if Mathieu forces his exit from Mestalla but, it’s claimed, there’s no sign of that happening as yet.

Mathieu is said to be Barca’s second defensive priority, behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos.
