Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes believes Los Blancos’ 1-0 win over Bayern Munich last night was a great result.
The Spaniard now sees his old club as favourites to progress to the Champions League final but warned that winning ‘La Decima’ is still a long way off.
“Until now Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti have done very well,” Morientes told Mundo Deportivo.
“A 0-0 in the second leg against Bayern would do but I have never a seen a Real Madrid go out not wanting to score a goal.
“The tie is in their favour and the result last night was great. It enables them to go to Munich for the second leg with certain guarantees.
“The Champions League is the one all Madridistas want. Since winning the ninth they have had chances in four semi-finals.
“But it will still be very difficult because the teams still in the tournament are great teams and whoever wins it will do so with fine margins.”
