Atletico Madrid right back Juanfran has said he is only interested in his side’s game against Real Betis this week, not the Clasico.
Juanfran was speaking to AS and was asked if Atletico’s game with Betis is as crucial as the meeting of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“All weeks are vital between now and the end of the season,” he replied.
“We have a tough game against Betis as they are risking their lives as we are the championship.
“The rest I couldn’t care less about. All we care about is our game on Sunday.
“Whatever happens [in the Clasico] the important thing is that we win. Any result is good for us.
“Now we have to win. What happens in that game may come in handy if we win in Seville.”
Juanfran added that Atletico realise they are faced with a chance of winning the title that may not arrive again.
“We’re not going to miss this train because the team has the mentality to fight for it all,” he continued.
“It’s a nice opportunity for everyone. Very few players in this team have been in this position before.
“With our fans we have to get important things and make this an historic year for Atletico.”
If Barcelona beat Real Madrid and Atleti see of Betis, then Los Rojiblancos will end the weekend top of the table.
“It doesn’t matter [who is top at the close of play]. What’s important is being level on points with the leaders.
“I hope one day there is no one leading us but we wouldn’t escape easy. But for now it’s just talk.”
Juanfran also said that Atletico are equally ambitious in Europe.
“At this stage of the Champions League we think we can beat anyone,” Juanfran insisted.
