Ever Banega could make a deadline day move from Valencia to Atletico Madrid but Diego Simeone must sell a player first.
The leading candidate to depart Vicente Calderon to make way for Banega is Joshua Guilavogui, Marca claims.
Los Che on Wednesday signed Seydou Keita for the rest of the season and his arrival means Juan Antonio Pizzi is willing to let Banega go, with Simeone keen to sign his compatriot.
But first Guilavogui must be found a new club first, otherwise Atletico will have no room for another midfielder.
Bangea previously played on loan for Atletico in the 2008-09 season before returning to Valencia.
Valencia nearly sold Banega to Stuttgart before Unai Emery, then Coach at the Mestalla, insisted he be retained. A fee of €9m had been agreed with the Bundesliga side.
