Reports in the British Press claim that Real Madrid want Wayne Rooney to stall talks with Manchester United over a new contract.
The England international’s current deal at Old Trafford ends in 2015, and the Sun on Sunday has insisted that Carlo Ancelotti’s men are keen on bringing the goalscorer to Spain.
The paper writes that Los Blancos will ask Rooney to hold out on signing an extension with the Premier League side so they can swoop for him next summer.
With just a year left on his deal in June 2014, it is believed that the 28-year-old could be available for around €25m.
Luis Suarez and Radamel Falcao have also been linked with switches to Santiago Bernabeu in recent months, as the club seemingly step up the chase for a forward.
