Holland boss Louis van Gaal has confessed he hopes Spain have an off day when the two sides meet at next year’s World Cup.
The Dutch have been drawn in Group B alongside Spain, Chile and Australia and the 62-year-old gave his reaction at having to play La Roja in the opening game.
“I hope Spain are not in good form and have an off day. They will want to win the match but so will Holland, but for us it is a challenge,” he told Cuatro TV.
“I saw Chile against Colombia and they are a good team. Our statistics against Australia are very bad, so it’s not our favourite group,” insisted the former Barcelona Coach.
Van Gaal revealed he had already spoken to Spain boss Vicente del Bosque about the possibility of the two nations coming across each other.
“He said this might happen. Mind you, I also told the President of the Belgian Football Federation that we would get them.”
