Argentina national team Coach Alex Sabella says he is optimistic over Lionel Messi’s recovery from a hamstring injury.
The Barcelona star was forced to come off during the 4-1 win at Real Betis in mid-November and is in Buenos Aires as he steps up his recovery for a first-team return, expected to be in the first week of January.
Sabella, who confessed he has spoken to Messi a couple of times at Ezeiza, the Argentine Football Association’s training headquarters, sent out a positive message via gathered media.
“We saw each other on Saturday and then on Tuesday, when we chatted for a while. On Monday he had moved around the pitch a bit and appeared to be in good spirits.
“Nonetheless, it is an injury that takes time and we must be patient with him, but I’m sure everything is going to be fine,” said Sabella, before setting off for Brazil where he will attend Friday’s World Cup draw.
