Malaga have pinpointed Jordi Cruyff as the man to fill the vacant director of football role at La Rosaleda, according to Sport.
Los Blanquaizules released Mario Husillos from the position last summer and in recent weeks the Argentine has been strongly linked with a return to his old job, which has been left vacant ever since.
However, chief executive Vicente Casado is keen to bring in someone with experience of both Spanish and international football, and former Barcelona and Manchester United midfielder Cruyff has emerged as a firm favourite for a return to La Liga.
The 39-year-old is currently sporting director at Maccabi Tel Aviv, a club that won the Israeli Premier League for the first time in 10 years last season, and Casado believes he perfectly fits the profile of what the Costa del Sol outfit are searching for, namely bringing through young players and having an enhanced media presence.
