Garrido wants Betis simplicity

Juan Carlos Garrido has mused on early work done this week with Real Betis and says he is looking to build form from a simple approach.

Los Beticos acted on Monday evening to remove Pepe Mel as Coach and bring in the former Villarreal and Brugge tactician as his replacement.

On from a first week with his new team, Garrido will debut on the bench tomorrow lunchtime in the Round of 32 Copa del Rey clash with Segunda B outfit Lleida Esportiu.

“The first thing has been to observe, to try to settle down,” the 44-year-old has reflected to reporters on his first few days.

“These days have been intense and they are special days for seeing the players with a willingness to work and that is the important thing that I am after, a team that can develop and play with the ball and have balance in strength and aggressiveness.

“In the lines of the team I want to have continuity. First I want to get to know all the players in these next weeks. I aspire to quickly have a settled first XI. We will try to do things simply and from there we will set a new path for the team. I have asked the players to train to their maximum and that is what they are doing.”

The atmosphere at Betis sees fans unhappy and protesting Pepe Mel’s sacking.

“We will do everything possible to see that the people around us are happy and that can be determined through results.

“I have to create a fighting team that plays good football and does things right.”

Garrido has confirmed that he will not have Ruben Castro available for his first game in charge.

“Ruben is not going to play and I will not force him to play, we do not want to lose him for a month. Now we have to take care and have him recover well. He is not in the squad.

“Today he was not comfortable for a problem with his foot. It is not a good situation because we need Ruben in a good condition. He has to be well enough to return to the team at a high level.

“He is one of the most important players on this team and he knows this because I told him. We shall see when there is a significant improvement in his fitness and that is when we will see the best Ruben.”
