Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has ruled out making a bid for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
Ballon d’Or holder Messi, who is currently sidelined until January with a hamstring injury, is contracted to the Catalans until June 2018 and is reported to have a €250m buyout clause inserted into his contract.
“Messi? We are talking here about figures that are simply absurd, about a transfer fee that is even higher than we paid for Javi Martinez. We won’t be going there,” declared Rummenigge to Sky 90.
“In any case, I know [Barcelona President] Sandro Rosell. Barca would never sell Messi. He is a saint to them and they will not sell him.
“I also think it would be in Messi’s best interests to remain with Barcelona. He fits in perfectly there.”
