Pepe Reina’s father has claimed that the Napoli goalkeeper had an agreement with Barcelona, but the move fell through.
The Liverpool loanee left Anfield over the summer to sign for the Serie A side until the end of the season.
But Miguel Reina has revealed that there were talks with the Blaugrana.
“My son came to an agreement with the club,” he told Minuto 116. “But in the end Victor Valdes did not leave.
“That’s why the transfer fell through.
“A few months ago Pepe was in negotiations with Barca. He came to an agreement with them and had planned to leave.”
With Valdes leaving for, reportedly, Monaco next summer, the Catalan club are in the market for a shot-stopper. It seems now though, that Borussia Monchengladbach man Marc-Andre ter Stegen is the main target.
