Oliver Torres has outlined Atletico Madrid’s ambition to continue with a ‘game-by-game’ approach, as they qualify for the Last 16 of the Champions League.
The capital club secured their place in the knockout stages of the competition with two rounds of Group G left to play, thanks to a fourth consecutive win, 4-0 over Austria Vienna.
For their young playmaker, though, no-one in the camp is getting carried away.
“I think that taking things on a game-by-game basis is giving us strength, more-so than looking at future objectives,” considered Oliver to reporters this week.
“We only see the present. Qualifying in the way that we have makes us very happy. We weren't expecting to advance so soon.
“We've been going step by step and winning all of our matches in the tournament and that's the attitude we want to stick with.
“We will look to win our next match, even if we have already qualified. We always want to give our maximum.”
Oliver is seen as one of the club’s most talented youngsters, but has been in and out of the team this season.
“The entire team is working hard. I may not be one of those players who plays a lot but I always look to take advantage when I do, just like the rest of my teammates.
“We don't want to think about the future as when you do that, things can work out badly.”
