Goals from Miranda, Raul Garcia, Filipe and Diego Costa gave Atletico Madrid a 4-0 win over Austria Vienna, as they qualified for the Last 16.
Adrian Lopez was back in the starting line-up in place of David Villa, whilst Raul Garcia took his place in midfield after being rested for last weekend’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.
Atleti could seal their place in the Last 16 with a win over the Austrian side, but they were, surprisingly, on the back foot early on.
It seemed Diego Simeone’s men were happy to soak up the pressure in the early exchanges, and try to hit the Austrian side on the counter-attack.
And after a swift move, the capital club were soon ahead as Koke swung in a corner for Miranda to poke home with 11 minutes gone.
Diego Costa and Raul Garcia went close soon after to doubling the Rojiblancos’ lead, but they found goalkeeper Heinz Linder in good form between the posts.
His impressive saves though, couldn’t stop the home side getting a second as Costa crossed for Garcia, who rose above the defence to head in.
And the hosts all but secured their passage into the next round as Adrian’s shot on the stroke of half time was palmed out by the goalkeeper, and Filipe was there to score the rebound.
After the break, it was more of the same as Atleti kept peppering the Vienna goal with shots, not content with just the three goals.
Juanfran, Raul Garcia and Cristian Rodriguez all went close to adding a fourth, but poor finishing a good goalkeeping kept it below a rout.
Manuel Ortlechner’s foul of Rodriguez meant that the Vicente Calderon team had a penalty late on, but that was saved by Linder after Diego Costa’s strike from 12 yards.
They did eventually get their fourth though, as Raul Garcia flicked the ball on to Costa, who finished with aplomb to complete an easy win.
