Xabi Prieto has outlined Real Sociedad’s necessity and intention to play for a result against Manchester United this Wednesday.
La Real travel out to Old Trafford this midweek for the third matchday of the Champions League group stages so far without a point in Group A.
However, the team’s captain is resolute in his message today that the San Sebastian side will push for something against the English.
“It is not only me, we are all really excited to go to a mythical stadium such as Old Trafford, to play against one of the best teams in the world. We intend to go there to compete, to stand up and why not to try and beat them?
“It is an important game. We are going there with zero points and we need a good result so as to stay alive in the group, to give us hope. If we are defeated then qualification to the next round would be very complicated, so we will compete, try to get the win and to play a great game.
“5,000 Real fans travelling out to the game? I’m sure if we had been given 10,000 tickets then more would have come. We should give value to their effort and the money they are spending in travelling out there. We will see if we can offer them a good game and dedicate a victory.”
Real head into the fixture having broken a winless run of games at the weekend that stretched back to August. Their opponents United have also endured an unsteady start to life under David Moyes.
“It is surprising to see them down in the League standings, btu they have great players and if we think they are in trouble and that it will be easier, then I believe it will become more complicated.
“It might not seem so hard, but they have big names and quality and I am sure they will return to form in the Premier League.
“Our win at Valencia? We had pushed from the first day without a win and for good or bad it was a weight, and we managed to win in a difficult stadium against an opponent who were on a very good run.
“It gives us confidence and morale prior to our next games.”
