Markel Susaeta has admitted that he and his Athletic Bilbao teammates have discussed scoring the first ever goal in the new San Mames.
On from saying goodbye to the old San Mames at the end of last season after 100 years playing there, Athletic officially open their new €218m ground next door this Week 4 with Celta Vigo’s visit on the Monday night.
“The most important thing is the three points, but we want to provide a homage to the fans,” reflected Susaeta to reporters this week.
“Clearly, I am dreaming of scoring the first goal in the stadium. We have discussed that in the dressing room, but it is secondary in our minds.
“I don’t know if there will be anxiety, we must remain very calm.
“Celta provide strong pressure, it will be a very difficult match and one that is also special for them.
“If we are to take something away from the game, we will have to produce a very professional performance.”
