Real Madrid have confirmed Xabi Alonso’s latest injury set-back, whilst Carlo Ancelotti lists 20 selected for the Trofeo Bernabeu against Al-Sadd.
Reports on Wednesday suggested that the midfielder, who was back in training after groin surgery this summer, had broken the fifth metatarsal in his foot.
“X-rays taken by Real Madrid Sanitas medical services have revealed that Real Madrid’s player Xabi Alonso fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot today,” Madrid have confirmed in a brief statement since released.
Speculation is that the 31-year-old will face a recovery period of between two and three months.
Meanwhile, today’s training session for Madrid saw Luka Modric, Pepe and Karim Benzema all rejoin the main group, and Asier Illarramendi complete part of the session also.
Sami Khedira continued individual recovery work, alongside Raphael Varane, Fabio Coentrao and Denis Cheryshev.
Carlo Ancelotti has also named a 20-man squad for Madrid’s Trofeo Bernabeu friendly against Raul Gonzalez’s Al-Sadd on Thursday: Casillas, Diego López, Tomás Mejías, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Carvajal, Arbeloa, Pepe, Nacho, Mateos, Özil, Kaká, Casemiro, Modric, Isco, Di María, Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, Morata, Jesé.
