Espanyol have decided to cancel a friendly in Libya on the recommendation of the Spanish embassy.
The Catalans have been advised not to travel to Libya within the next few days for security reasons, and a club statement said the team will return directly to Barcelona after the friendly with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Javier Aguirre’s men were set to face Al-Ittihad next week as part of a collaboration agreement signed by both clubs last April, which includes a number of initiatives related to sporting and marketing issues.
Nevertheless, Espanyol are considering whether the game can be played at a later date and will take advice from the relevant authorities over the coming weeks.
