Espanyol have turned down an offer of €4.5m for Ghanaian midfielder Wakaso Mubarak from an unnamed club.
The 22-year-old [pictured, left] has become one of cash-strapped Espanyol’s most saleable assets after an impressive first season following his €300,000 capture from Villarreal in July 2012.
However, Espanyol’s financial Vice-President Jose Luis Morlanes disclosed to Radio Catalunya that the club have already refused to sell him for a fee it considers less than the player’s true value.
“We received an offer of €4.5m for him from a European club, but we are not going to sell him for that amount,” revealed Morlanes, although he did not say which team the bid had come from.
Both Swansea City and Juventus have recently shown interest in Wakaso and, regardless of whether he finally leaves or not, Espanyol still need to add another €4m to their coffers before the start of the season to balance the books.
So far this summer the only departure has been sale of Jordi Amat to Swansea City for €3m.
