Diego Alves has informed Valencia of his intention not to leave the club this summer, increasing speculation around Vicente Guaita.
Los Che had indicated during last season that this summer would see one of their two first-team goalkeepers offloaded, with Alves seen as the likely candidate to leave.
The player met with President Amadeo Salvo and sporting director Braulio Vazquez yesterday, accompanied by his agent, with it believed to study offers available from other clubs.
However, Marca are running the line that Alves took the opportunity to inform the club of his intention to stay at the club and continue for next season.
“Diego Alves is not going to leave,” the goalkeeper’s agent Jose Rodriguez Baster told reporters after the meeting.
“We are very happy here and the club is happy with us.
“The player will travel to Germany [for preseason] with the rest of the team.”
Speculation will continue to surround Alves and reputed Barcelona target Guaita, as Coach Miroslav Djukic yesterday made clear he will not alternate between the two in La Liga, instead preferring to settle with one as first choice.
