New Real Betis signing Cedric Mabwati says he is happy to have arrived at the Andalusian club following his unveiling on Wednesday.
The Congolese international has been snapped up for a token €1.20, a sum that was included in his contract with former club Numancia, and spoke of his delight at finally landing at Heliopolis.
“I’m very excited and very happy to have come to Betis. I hope to work hard and help the team in any way I can,” he told gathered media.
“It’s a very important step for me and when I was first told about this move it made me really happy as this is a big club.
“I can play on either wing and I think my strength is my pace, so I’ll try to help my teammates in that.
“I don’t mind which side of the pitch I play on as I’ve played on both wings from when I was a youngster.”
Inevitably, the 21-year-old was asked about the €1.20 release clause inserted in his agreement with the Soria outfit.
“That’s a question I was expecting. There are a lot of things behind it but my agent knows more,” he replied.
“I can only say that I didn’t have to go and pay it. It’s just a story, but I will say that I am excited to be playing in Europe.
“Betis had a good season and hopefully we can do the same again this year. I’ve no preference for any numbered shirt, but whichever one they give me I’ll gladly wear it,” he added.
Cedric arrived in Spain in his early teens and joined Atletico Madrid’s youth system at the age of 13, spending two seasons with the club’s B team before being loaned to Numancia and eventually signing in 2011.
