Mediaset claim Edinson Cavani agreed £7.2m per season wages with Chelsea, but must now convince Napoli to lower his price-tag.
The striker is still in Brazil on international duty and will play for Uruguay against Italy in Sunday’s Confederations Cup third place final.
According to SportMediaset, Cavani’s entourage has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea, namely a five-year contract worth €8.5m per season – approximately £7.2m.
However, the Stamford Bridge side are unwilling to pay the €63m buy-out clause in his Napoli contract – £53m.
Cavani said this week he wanted to set up a face-to-face meeting with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis as soon as possible.
The patron replied that any encounter would be unnecessary as the striker will only be sold if a club can activate the release clause in his contract.
Napoli would only accept Ramires as part of any exchange deal, but Chelsea are unwilling to part with the Brazilian.
It is believed Manchester City have dropped out of the race for Cavani, while Real Madrid are turning their attention towards Liverpool's Luis Suarez.
