Julen Lopetegui has dismissed talk of Spain as favourites to defeat France tomorrow, and admits he may make line-up changes.
La Rojita head into Thursday’s FIFA U-20 World Cup Group A encounter with France already assured of a spot in the Round of 16 and aware that a point would guarantee them first in the group.
Facing the Press 24 hours ahead of Les Bleuets at the Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul, Spain’s Coach was asked how his side are approaching the game in their situation and as favourites.
“It is something that we have gotten used to,” Lopetegui responded today.
“The feeling is familiar, but that is not going to help us to win. The only things that affect that are based on what you do on the field. You can talk a lot, but these things are not for us.
“In these competitions you can only focus on what lies ahead and that right now is France. They have improved an awful lot year on year and they are a good team.
“Our idea is to top the group. Every other possibility will then follow.
“They will not have Pogba, through suspension, who has already played at senior level, but they have players who will ensure that his absence is not felt.”
Lopetegui is speculated as making changes to the Spain line-up.
“We are happy with those that have played and tomorrow we will try to present the best and most appropriate line-up.
“When there is a squad of 21 players, it is for these circumstances.
“There are situations of wear, fatigue, and the group is most important. All players will have their chance at the World Cup.”
