Spain are through to the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 World Cup thanks to a close-fought win against Ghana.
Following on from Friday’s 4-1 defeat of the United States, Julen Lopetegui’s side defeated Africans Ghana 1-0 on Monday evening at the Ali Sami Yen Arena in Istanbul.
A bright start by La Rojita saw Jese Rodriguez net his third goal of the tournament, as he finished off a Denis Suarez cut-back.
Spain, however, were made to suffer for the win, as missed chances on the counter-attack encouraged Ghana back into the game.
However, the team held out and, thanks to France’s draw with the US, have taken top spot in the group and are already guaranteed a place in the Last 16 of the tournament.
