Lopetegui: Spain suffered, but…

Julen Lopetegui has commented that Spain’s 1-0 win over Ghana was a ‘typical World Cup game’ that his side had to suffer in.

La Rojita booked their place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey on Monday evening thanks to Jese Rodriguez’ solitary goal.

For the Coach, the way the game ended with his team hanging on, was not of concern, only to be expected.

“I think it was a typical World Cup game that has forced us to go to the limit, we knew we had the toughest group of the tournament and we have had to suffer as we knew we would in this tournament,” Lopetegui explained to reporters.

“We are satisfied. In the World Cup you have to suffer adverse circumstances and the team has done so.

“France in the final group game will be a very tough and important opponent, they have players who were not at the UEFA Under-21 Championship.

“Starting [Tuesday] we will think about that game. My team has given a good level in the first two games.

“We have improved with respect to the first game, but we have to keep thinking about doing things better. It is not only us thinking that, but the other teams too.”
