Iniesta: Spain closer to losing

Andres Iniesta has reflected that Spain will be ‘closer to losing’ than they will be winning this summer, in relation to past success.

La Roja begin their Confederations Cup campaign tonight in Brazil against Uruguay, playing in the competition as world and double European champions.

However, for that success, their midfielder has a cautious approach for this latest tournament.

“Everyone wants to win every time because it is what we train and work towards,” reflected Iniesta to SeFutbol today.

“It is the goal that we have, but it is true that when you have won much, you are a lot closer to losing than you are to winning again.

“We look for challenges because even if we have won a lot, there’s always something different.

“The Confederations Cup is something that we lack, we were close in the previous one. It’s a nice showcase to win.”

The Barcelona man then turned his attention to tonight’s opponents.

“We know them well. They are a strong team and when they have the ball they are very aggressive, in the best sense of the word.

“They have top players who can make the difference.”

Iniesta was asked of his reception at away grounds whilst on international duty, which is often positive.

“The team has given me this recognition. I can only thank the people who like what I do and transmit as much.

“Such love and respect is beautiful and special to me. Nobody is obliged to applaud you when you are on the opposing team and things are not going well with your team.

“I am grateful and always will be to the fans that I have.”
