Malaga have reportedly identified former Getafe and Real Madrid Coach Bernd Schuster as their first choice replacement for Manuel Pellegrini.
On from seeing talks with Newell’s Old Boy’s Gerardo Martino break down, the Costa del Sol outfit have reportedly turned to the 53-year-old German, who has been out of work since leaving Besiktas in 2011.
It is understood that Malaga have considered a number of options to replace Pellegrini and have reached a consensus that Schuster fits the bill.
Talks are reportedly already at an advanced stage and an agreement could be reached in the next few hours.
Meanwhile, the club are also in the market for a new sporting director, having taken the surprising decision to release Mario Husillos from his contract.
Husillos was seen as in talks to extend his deal beyond its June 30 expiry, having apparently impressed club officials with his work since arriving last summer at the recommendation of Pellegrini.
